A MAN has been arrested for kidnapping a number of children from a preschool in the north of the city and using them as models, police said Wednesday.
The suspected abductors, aged between 14 and 16, are accused of kidnapping the children from the preschool at around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.
The suspect was able to persuade a child to go to the playground without her parents and the suspects later took her to a holiday park in the nearby village of Wayfair, he said.
“The suspects left the children behind with the father and two other children in a shopping mall in the area,” Rosenfeld said.
“The suspects are currently in police custody.
We will not give more details on the case at this time.”
On Wednesday, Rosenfeld told the Jerusalem Post that a police source told him that the suspects are members of the Popular Resistance Committees, which the police believe are behind the abduction of a number a children from preschools across Israel.
“A number of them are known to us,” Rosenfeld said, adding that police are also searching for two other suspects in the case.
“We are currently searching for these two suspects,” Rosenfoldsaid, adding, “It is clear that there are many more abductions going on in Israel.”
Rosenfeld said that police received information about the abduction in October 2016, and began searching for the suspects in December.
He said that in October, police arrested the suspect in connection with the kidnapping.
“He was in custody at the time, but then he was released without charges,” Rosenfield said.
Police were called to the scene after a mother reported that her daughter had been kidnapped, and found a number number of child models posing nude on the ground, the spokesman said.
The suspect is described as white, in his mid-20s, with a heavy build, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with a logo of a car.
He was wearing dark glasses and a black cap.
Rosenfld said that officers were able to trace the suspect’s GPS coordinates to the village of Jafra, which is located about 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of the playground.
The child models were found at a nearby hotel, Rosenfld added.
Police said the suspects were also wearing hooded jackets and pants.
The suspects were released without any charges on Wednesday.
